Vehicle Operation (ADMS-DRIVE)
ADMS-DRIVE is used to train, assess and recertify new and experienced drivers in safe and effective driving. It is also used as a training platform to train emergency responders to drive under stressful conditions, and by airport snow removal teams to train in snow removal operations during winter conditions. ADMS-DRIVE immerses the user in a realistic virtual environment in which dynamic elements such as traffic, signal lights, people and weather create a challenging representation of the real world. ETC can integrate your exact local area into the 3D-driver trainer environment.
ADMS-DRIVE is available as a full-immersion system with a vehicle cab and motion platform, as a semi-immersion mini cab with a motion seat, and as a desktop trainer. There are various options for vehicle dynamics, out-of-the-window visual displays, mirrors, steering wheels, pedals, gearbox, gauges, equipment, sound and motion. Multiple ADMS-DRIVE simulators can be networked for complete interactive team training.
Training Staff can create scenarios where the drivers will have to cope with varying situations. Training can be done individually or in a team setting. The Training Staff has full control over the training. To train effectively the system scores performance by integrating both automated scoring for objectives such as adherence to rules of the road, and with integrated observation forms that Training Staff fill out for objectives such as proper radio technique. Both datasets are used in combination with the After Action Reviewer playback tool when debriefing for a comprehensive assessment.
A joint study conducted in 2004 by FAA/DOT/VOLPE, determined that habits learned on the ADMS-DRIVE simulator transferred directly into the field, proving a very high level of fidelity and training value for improving runway safety.
Example Applications:
- Certifying Drivers how to drive and communicate on the Airport Operations Area (AOA)
- Addresses FAA Part 139 Airside Safety Compliance
- Training Emergency Responders to drive safe and quickly to Incident
- Training Airport Snow Removal Teams
- Training New Staff to find their way in a new city, facility and terrain
- Training Fire Truck Drivers to drive in a Forest Fire environment
- Training Police Pursuit with multiple vehicles
- Training VIP-convoy to drive as a team in urban areas
