ALERT Issue 3 News, technology, developments and features of interest to the emergency response and disaster training community. |
Dear Reader,
My name is Marco van Wijngaarden and I am very proud to be the new ADMS President at ETC Simulation.
Previous to this position, I worked with ETC as a customer for five years as Director of Training at the National Institute for Safety in the Netherlands. Before that, I was in the Air Force and worked with ETC exploring use of simulation at the Netherlands Fire and Rescue Training Center.
I will use my professional experience and perspective as a customer to support our division in furthering and developing current and new products and services. Results can be expected soon! We have already started the development of some exiting new products, and have been working hard to get our ADMS Training Services ready to support training anywhere and anytime.
Together with the subject matter expertise of our partners and customers we can develop innovative simulation environments that enable the best training. I am really looking forward to meeting you and discussing how we may help your organization work toward optimal preparedness. At the end of the day, ADMS is about saving lives and bounding environmental impact. We stand ready to support you.
Best Regards,
Marco van Wijngaarden President, ETC Simulation

Incident Command Training Using Simulation
Korean National Fire Service Academy's Training Captain discusses the need for dynamic simulation for optimal preparedness
By
Captain Tae-Mi Kweon
Training of Incident Commanders (IC's) has
traditionally been conducted using a variety
of methods, the most common being live
exercises, case studies of major incidents,
tabletop exercises, and lectures on
leadership, principles of command, and
operational procedures. However, it is not
enough for an IC to simply know the
principles and procedures and utilize
pre-prepared list-based contingencies,
because incident scenes are in many cases
very dynamic, dangerous, complex, and
confusing. These factors have an enormous
effect on an IC.
